Your Cuba itinerary
Did You Know?
Cuba boasts the most doctors per capita and has an internationally famous medical system highlighted by their completely free healthcare.
Day 1
Habana y la Historia
Land in La Habana and be whisked away to your 5 course meal! Your first lesson is CUBAN HISTORY THROUGH FOOD. Every dish is specifically selected to tell the story of Cuba and is explained by a museologist.
Next is SOCIALISM IN MEDICINE. Your teacher is Cuba's leading gynecologist who explains all of Cuba's triumphs as well as shortcomings in its medical system as doctors are forced to work with limited resources due to US sanctions.
Day 2
Art Around Every Corner
Your professor today is a Cuban art curator who will take on a CUBAN ART WALK. This isn’t a museum tour. Our artists are living and breathing and documenting their every day realities in Cuba. They open their homes exclusively to you and engage in discussion about the meaning of their work. Here you can buy directly from the artist!
Next, head to the crystal clear waters of the blue Caribbean sea where we have organized a BEACH BARBECUE.
Did you know?
Ares is the most awarded political cartoonist in Cuba. You’ll meet him today!
Did you know?
Fidel Castro was the military strategist behind the Angolan Independence War.
Day 3
Cuba & Africa
Our day starts with your own private CUBAN DANCE lesson. Your professors are the world famous dancers of the Tropicana Cabaret!
Next you'll learn how Cuba's African heritage has shaped its culture and present-day life from dance, music and religious beliefs. Speak to an ex-combatant who fought in Angola alongside Che Guevara about CUBAN SOLIDARITY MISSIONS.
Enjoy a moving dance performance on Afrocuban religious ceremonies while you learn about Santeria. Your Babalawo (priest) will teach you everything from the gods, to initiation into the religion, to how it all came about!
What other Reroot travelers are saying:
Did You Know?
Cuba’s tobacco farms are protected UNESCO heritage sites and no machinery is permitted. The entire farm is plowed by oxen and accessed via horse, just like the old days.
Day 4
Eco Farming
We head to the countryside of Cuba where the landscapes take your breath away. You'll be welcomed into a typical family home and enjoy a fresh homemade meal leading to our first lesson - FOOD ECONOMICS. Learn how sanctions have affected Cuban access to food and the strange laws created as a result.
Our next lesson is on horseback as we ride through the farms of Cuba to learn about ECO FARMING. Here is where you’ll learn the tobacco growing process as you try your own complimentary cigar dipped in honey and sip mojitos at one of the best views Cuba has to offer.
