SOME TRAVEL TO DESTINATIONS—OTHERS TRAVEL THROUGH THE PEOPLE.

TRAVEL TO CUBA

Explore a living, breathing, modern country.

Join this tour if...you want to learn directly from Cuban experts and visit the homes of artists, eco-sustainable farmers, Santeria priests that consult with oracles, former freedom fighters, and international solidarity medical professionals. You’ll celebrate a vibrant country, filled with living artists, musicians, dancers, and athletes. Lastly, you’ll explore the Socialist system from a different perspective from the one you were taught in school (both the good and the bad).

TRAVEL TO EL SALVADOR

Celebrate a resilient people.

Join this tour if...you want to learn from Salvadoran experts, anthropologists, champion surfers, Indigenous speakers, violence prevention specialists, and former guerrilleros from the Civil War. You’ll eat ancestral meals in homes with adobe ovens and watch fireflies as you camp atop a volcano and listen to stories of the goddesses that rule this place. And you’ll learn from a resilient population who has endured so much—yet still finds the energy to build in community.

TRAVEL TO HAWAI’I

Visit sacred lands, guided by native people.

Join this tour if...you want to hear stories from Native Hawaiians—a perspective often left out of textbooks. You’ll learn how the U.S. military threw explosives into the sea, resorts and military bases were built atop precious watersheds, and American businessmen illegally overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy. You’ll explore sacred lands while learning the dangers of overtourism, make your own leis, and harvest your own food for a luau with a world-class chef.

Before you book:
This is not the tour for you if...

…you cannot be respectful of all lands, practices, and teachings; approach your trip with curiosity and critical thought, and believe in investing in the communities you visit. Reroot partners with professors who share untold stories and personal experiences, often in their own homes or within sacred lands. We pride ourselves on the years-long relationships we’ve established with these experts, and compensate them fairly for their time. If your presence will be disruptive to the safety of the eco-system we have built, we prefer you do not come. Our integrity will always come before sales.

We are a regenerative tour company, and always believe in leaving places better than we found them.

Reroot creates a two-way educational exchange between open-minded travelers and local professors.

No two Reroot tours are the same because no two travel groups are the same. We offer our signature educational tours throughout the year, along with one-time, specialty trips. These educational sessions are not available for booking anywhere else, locally or online.

How it works:

1

REGISTER FOR THE TOUR

On the Bookings page, select your tour and make your non-refundable deposit. Post-purchase, you’ll receive a waiver and further details concerning your trip.

2

SEND US YOUR DETAILS

Fill out our questionnaire so we can make your stay as comfortable as possible. Disclose any allergies, medical requirements, accommodation preferences, and other necessary information.

3

MEET US AT THE AIRPORT

Reroot's packages cover all ground transport during scheduled trip dates—starting from the moment you land. Our team will be waiting to chauffeur you from the gate to kickstart your trip.

What does it mean to “travel through the people”?

Reroot connects open-minded travelers to local experts to build a real-life, educational experience through travel. With Reroot, your classroom is the destination itself and your professors are those woven into the very fabric of their society. No session on your Reroot itinerary is available for booking anywhere else—on the internet or elsewhere—including Airbnb Experiences or Tripadvisor.

THE ACCOMODATIONS

You won’t be staying at an all-inclusive resort owned by an international corporation. Instead, you'll reside in local, family-owned hotels, sleep in colonial-style mansions repossessed by the government during revolutions, or glamp at the base of a volcano. Meals are cooked by local grandmothers, family-style meals on country farms, or the hottest, creative spots that support local business owners.

THE PROFESSORS

Each session is taught by an academic or community expert in their respective field. You’ll learn first-hand from historians, museologists, doctors, nationally-ranked surfers and dancers, and military strategists—many times in their homes or places of business.

THE classes

Every minute of your experience is planned out. You’ll attend expert-taught sessions on native languages, bitcoin and cryptocurrency, socialist medicine, Lenca spirituality, and Santeria.

THE IMPACT

To “Reroot” means to spark change—both in your community and in yourself. We expect every traveler to be changed in some way. We’ve had former travelers launch nonprofits, get married to fellow travelers, and launch initiatives in their communities following their trip. Tour dollars stay in the communities we visit, creating a positive ripple effect.
