El Salvador was embroiled in a 12-year Civil War funded by the United States where the CIA trained Salvadoran leaders to carry out mass killings against its own people. What is shocking is that it only just ended in 1992. Many people living in El Salvador have lived through and still are affected by the war. In this experience, you’ll meet a revolutionary fighter who will take you on a journey of how peasants won against a brutal government and his personal experience with guerrilla warfare.
Next we head to the largest massacre in the Americas during modern times, El Mozote. Here we will meet a massacre survivor and she describes her experience escaping soldiers with her child and what happened to those who were rounded up by El Salvador’s military dictatorship and murdered in a town square. This experience is harrowing, please be aware of the content.
Finally, we stop for local lunch at a look out point with green rolling mountain as a backdrop. Lunch is included in the pricing.
